Now that PIP seems to have begun in earnest, we want to find out more about how medicals are being carried out. To this end we’ll be starting a long-term survey in the next few weeks to allow people who have had a PIP medical to share information with us anonymously.{jcomments on}

But we are also keen to see copies of PIP medical reports and analyse their contents to try to understand more about how both the computerised and non-computerised systems work and what assumptions and generalisations might be being made about individuals.

We also want to take completely anonymised extracts from reports to use in our guides and for training purposes.

We are paying £10 for every medical report we agree to be sent .

We want to cover as wide a range of conditions as possible, however, so please don’t send us your report until you’ve contacted us and we’ve agreed to accept it.

Your medical must have taken place on or after 1 September 2013.

You will need to tell us a bit about your opinion of the report as well. We’ll send you some questions to answer. It doesn’t need to be very detailed and we’re not worried about spelling, grammar or anything else – we just want to know how well you think the report sums up how your condition affects you.

The £10 we’re paying for each report we agree to be sent is to cover your costs. You can either scan and email your documents or post them to us. You can remove all the identifying data such as your name, address and national insurance number yourself or we’ll do it when we receive the report.

How to take part
If you’d like to take part, please email us and let us know:

1 what your main condition or conditions are,

2 what date your medical took place

3 whether it was carried out by Atos or Capita – if you’re not sure include the first three digits of your postcode and we’ll work it out.

We’ll then get back to you and let you know if it’s a report that we would like to receive and how to send it to us. Please don’t send anything until you hear back from us.
