Charities have been outraged by the ‘insulting’ payments they have been offered by other charities as an inducement to take on volunteers under a DWP funded programme.

The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, Community Service Volunteers,  Volunteering England and Vinspired each get between £130 and £200 from the DWP for every claimant they place in voluntary work.

However, BTCV and CSV have been offering volunteer centres as little as £20 for each volunteer they take from them.  One centre described the offer as ‘insulting’ and also rejected an improved offer of £65.
