Benefits and Work has obtained copies of the confidential monthly disability living allowance Decision Makers Exchanges from July to December 2009

The editions cover a wide range of issues, including:

  • whether claiming carer’s allowance for another person may sometimes be incompatible with a person’s claim for DLA or AA;
  • why it is never appropriate for decision makers to refer to a “simple” main meal when considering the lower rate of the care component of DLA;
  • how to decide on the length of an award when a claimant has two medical conditions;
  • why the DWP considers that proof of posting is not sufficient to establish a claim unless it can also be proved that the claim was received.
