The BBC and the Daily Telegraph have both published leaked lists of what are claimed to be quangos that are to be axed, merged, or saved as well as quangos whose fate still hangs in the balance..

Of particular relevance to disabled people are the following:

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission – still to be decided
Independent Living Fund – abolish and devolve powers to local authorities (awaiting final decision)
Disability Living Allowance Advisory Board – abolish
Disability Employment Advisory Committee – abolish and devolve disability employment advice function to Equality 2025
Remploy – still to be decided

Whilst few people are likely to miss the Disability Living Allowance Advisory Board, the possible destruction of Independent Living Fund will be an enormous worry to those who benefit from payments from the fund.  In particular, there are many disabled people who can only keep their employment because of the financial support  provided by the ILF, support which is very unlikely to be matched by cash strapped local authorities.

There may be mixed feelings about the possible demise of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission given its almost total failure to protect disabled claimants from the campaign of vilification currently being waged by government and much of the media.
