Has your MP signed the early day motions relating to proposed cuts in disability living allowance and local housing allowance?

A motion by Kate Hoey (EDM 393) calling on the government to: “re-consider its decision to introduce medical assessments for new and existing claimants of disability living allowance” has been signed by 47 MPs including three LibDems and one Tory.

A further motion (EDM 369) has been tabled by Fiona O’Donnell and signed by 44 MPs.  The motion calls on the government to: “complete a full and comprehensive equality impact assessment detailing how the changes announced in the Budget will impact on disabled people.”

Whilst this might not sound very radical, such motions allow campaigners to identify MPs who may support a challenge to the plans to axe one in five current DLA claimants.

A similar motion (S3M-06644), The UK Budget and the Future of Disability Living Allowance, has been put before the Scottish Parliament by MSP Bill Kidd.

Please check if your MP has signed at least one of these motions and, if they haven’t, use the excellent Write To Them website to contact your MP before they all go off on holiday on 27th July.
