The government is currently consulting on the draft points system for personal independence payment (PIP), due to begin replacing disability living allowance (DLA) for working age claimants from 2013. The consultation closes on 30 April and there are a number of groups who want to help as many DLA claimants as possible take part.

Although the decision to introduce PIP has now been made and cannot be changed, the points system is, allegedly, still only in draft form and the DWP are asking for input from disability organisations and claimants. However, the consultation document and questions are far from user-friendly, so attempts are being made to make it more accessible.

Spartacus, the disabled claimants movement which produced the widely praised Responsible Reform report, has produced some simple guidance and a set of unofficial user-friendly documents to help DLA claimants and others express their views to the Government.

You can find out more on the We Are Spartacus website

A group of mental health agencies, including MIND and Rethink, are collecting information via a survey to help them respond to the consultation. You can take part in the mental health survey here.

Ian Sandeman, who runs the DLA Help Group, has come up with a survey that will help people create their own response to the consultation. You can complete the survey and then have the results emailed to you to send on to the DWP.

You can take part in Ian's survey here

and if you have any questions you can contact Ian at: info@dlahelpgroup.com

The DWP consultation document is available to download from this page.

Our own PIP self-assessment form, which allows you to find out what you might score under PIP is available here.

More than 11,000 people have assessed themselves since we launched the form and knowing what you might be awarded under PIP is an important issue if you wish to take part in the consultation.

Finally, over 5,000 people have taken part in our own PIP survey.

The results of the survey are published online as they happen to allow other agencies and individuals to use them in their submission to the consultation, if they wish.
