Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
ESA? was created by Gareth56
A friend of mine is currently undergoing (hopefully successful) treatment for cancer. He's 66 yrs old and was working part-time until his diagnosis a few weeks ago. Can he claim ESA or can he only claim PIP which if as he's undergoing treatment for cancer his application will [hopefully] be fast tracked?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If they have reached State Retirement Age then they cannot claim ESA and as they are over 66 they cannot claim PIP, so it will have to be Attendance Allowance.

Thanks Gordon. I'll tell them.
Regarding PIP if you are in receipt of PIP before you reach state pension age do you continue to receive it after you reach state pension age providing of course you satisfy the eligibility criteria?

Yes you will.
One thing to add in regard to a claim from AA, they will also need to show that their Care needs have existed for three months and are likely to exist for a further six months, so he may need to delay making an application.
