My friend is claiming for pip.. Decided the best course of action would be to take it to the CAB for help to fill it in... It took 3 hours for an American with a " different" angle on English language to finally fill it in.. The outcome is in my eyes totally unacceptable to send forward to the DWP. Several spelling mistakes and grammatical errors make it look a mess..Any advice please..xx

It is the claimants form, if they are not happy with the content then they should change it as required, they will have no come back to the advice agency if it does not result in an award.

They need to be aware that there is no online version of the PIP claim form and each form issued has unique bar codes, so any corrections will have to be made to what is already in place, although extra pages can be added.

I was turned down for IB about eight years ago. I waited three hours to see someone at CAB as there was no appointment system and then the woman just flicked through the form and said: 'Oh, well, if they've only awarded you eight points, there's nothing you can do about it.' I sought help from Action for ME and got fantastic advice which helped me to win my appeal. Sometimes it's better to get advice from a charity or support group which knows about your particular condition.

If you feel there's not enough mentioned or things put incorrectly maybe you could add pages with question numbers and full answers and explain that when you got home and looked at the form that CAB had filled in that you werent happy with it as it as you felt not enough information had been provided.
I did this when i couldnt fill in the form by hand and stapled it too the original form where the pages for additional information were.
I've found my local CAB are not very good and they messed up my submission for an appeal i dont know whether its because of them being inundated in some areas and using people who are not trained properly.
Trouble with CAB is they dont have to answer to anyone if they do things incorrectly, its left to you to sort out in my experience.

I don't want to put down the CAB as they often provide an excellent service particularly around areas such as debt and housing. However there can be differences in quality of service around the country. Also it's important to bear in mind that they cover a lot of different subject areas and won't necessarily have anyone who specialises in disability rights. I tend to agree with irisheyes that you may wish to try a disability specific group or a local DIAL (Disability Information Advice Line).
