pip 2 question was created by woodsie
Hi guys
My question is about the preparing food question on the Pip 2 questionnaire.
It is simply this, in my household at the moment I very very rarely cook anything . I'll make a sandwich, eat a cold pasta salad or a wrap and a cup of tea for lunch; my wife cooks, my daughter cooks, I don't need to.
I use a liquid level indicator to make a cup of tea; and that's about it!
What am I supposed to do about answering this question; do I put answers as to what would be problems if I did try and cook (I would need assistance from my wife for the duration) or do I say I hardly cook for myself?.
Thanks in advance for any response.

We would not normally go into this much detail on the forum about what to put in a form. However all of the detail you have described is relevant. You need to make it clear that the reason you do not cook is capacity related not because of preference. Giving examples of problems you would have wih cooking, e.g being safe in the kitchen, is also a good idea.

just because you dont actually cook is irrelevent , does your disability cause you problems if you attemted it, like peeling, cutting , reading labels etc

The first thing is to have a look at the PIP Claim guide as these matters are explained in more detail than I can provide in the forum
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
But to try and answer your question, to pass the test you need to show either;
- due to physical limitations you could not prepare a meal, or
- due to mental health issues you need prompting to prepare a meal
so if you do not normally prepare a meal because someone else does this for you, but could do so if required, then you should explain this, but this is very unlikely to score you points in regard this test.
