Called into job centre was created by kazza
I was called into the job centre and was asked about wah at I'm thinking of doing about returning to work , I won my ESA claim for anxiety and depression and was told I would not have to return or be reassessed for 18 months and it has been less than a year , the guy suggested some voluntary work to help me back into proper life , is this a trap to say that if I'm ok for voluntary work then I would be seen fit for full time work ?

From what you have written it would appear you have been placed in the Work Related Activity Group or WRAG. This means you are required to do Work Related Activity. But you are not required to apply or look for paid work whilst you are one ESA.

Work Related Activity is a vague term but it can include voluntary work or training. It also includes Work Focused Interviews. These may be at the job centre or at a Work Programme providers office. You will be on the Work Programme for two years or until, your claim ends, whichever comes first.

Work Related Activity is mandatory. That means that if you do not participate your benefits can be sanctioned. You should not be asked to do anything you are not medically fit to do. If you feel you have been asked to do something that you are not well enough to do you should seek advice from a local Citizens Advice or similar organisation. A letter from your GP stating you cannot undertake the specific activity should also help. But please note that a letter stating you are unable to work will not help as this is already accepted.

Please also note that any activity you agree to, such as voluntary work, then becomes mandatory. This means that if you stop doing it, without a good reason, your benefits can be sanctioned.
