4 years on ESA and now I scored 0 ! was created by david wallis
ok I had a car accident in 2010 and have been on ESA ever since. I attended a medical 2 weeks ago and got a phone call yesterday to say I scored 0 and my ESA was being taken away. Today I phoned the DWP to get them to do the Mandatory reassessment thing.

They seem to have ignored everything I put in my questionaire. Here are my medical problems:

1. I cant walk further than 15-20 metres without having to stop because of severe back pain
2. I cant sit or stand for longer than 5-10 minutes without having to move
3. I cant socialise or talk to people I dont know due to suffering a Personality Adjustment Disorder from the car accident.
4. I have bad hearing (self inflicted due to years of loud music!) but in working environments I find it hard to understand people and sometimes dont hear them at all when they talk to me
5. I have Aggressive Disorder and have a short temper and get angry at anybody for anything and can become violent (again because of the car accident)

I have psychologist reports from 2011 and 2012 and some other medical reports which confirm I have:

Chronic Pain Syndrome
Personality Adjustment Disorder with anxiety and mood disturbance
Aggressive Disorder
Limited movement of right arm caused by shoulder injury
Chronic Lower back pain

I would appreciate any help you can give me, I am going to submit these reports in support of my Mandatory reconsideration. I have also written a 5 page report detailing the sections I believe apply to me in the scoring process.

I actually score 81 going by my own assessment of my injuries and what I can and cant do!

Hello and welcome to the forum. On the assumption that you are also new to the site, this FAQ should help you find your way around.

You have done the right thing in requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration. You will not recieve any ESa during this time, if yo0u are also on Housing Benefit you should notify them that your ESa has finished and make a claim on the grounds of low income.

Some people submit extra evidence for the MR in order to give the best chance of overturning the decision. However, you should be aware that this can prolong the time that the MR takes. Some people prefer to get the MR over and done with as soon as possible and move on to appeal as ESA will be paid again at this stage. You must make your own decision regarding this.

hi

thanks for the quick reply, I spoke to the benefits people and they have assured me the process will take 2 weeks if I submit further evidence, so fingers crossed this will do the trick

David

Whilst they might complete MR in two weeks, I have to warn you that our experience is more in the range 9-11 weeks.
