IR (ESA) Wrag but worsening... was created by pink
Hi, I am in receipt of IR (ESA) in Wrag, having used up my contribution-based 12 mths benefit over a year ago. I have a partner who works part time and I receive a reduced IR ESA payment due to my partner's earnings.

My health is worsening and I am considering reporting this in the hope of making the support group as I believe I now meet some of the descriptors and have a copy of a letter from my Specialist to my GP that will hopefully be adequate evidence of this.

My question is what will happen payment wise if successful - does the previous contribution-based claim then continue or will it remain the same rate as now because of my partners small part-time earnings?

Also am I likely to be called for another ATOS assessment - don't know if I can deal with the stress if so and the possibility of losing ESA altogether is frightening and making me wonder if I should just not bother.

Thanks for reading :)

If you are placed in the Support Group then your ESA(CB) will be re-instated, you may still be eligible for an ESA(IR) top-up depending on your circumstances, if you are not then you need to be aware that you will lose entitlement to free prescriptions etc, so you may want to get face to face advice from a trained advisor who should be able to calculate what your payments might be.

As you are reporting a Change of Circumstances I would expect you to receive a new ESA50 and likely be asked to attend a face to face assessment.

You will need to provide medical evidence that supports the deterioration of your condition, also, as it appears you have not been assessed for the best part of two years, you need to be aware that the ESA Descriptors and Regulations have been updated in the interim, so make sure that you go through the latest guides and fully understand the qualifying criteria for the Support Group.
