PIP Home Assessment ? was created by Noodles
Hi,

Just beginning to take some notes and a lot more interest in what for my husband will be a changeover from DLA to PIP.next year. What if any is the current criteria for a home assessment for a PIP ? Would the inability to physically get a client to the nearest DWP assessment centre due to strong Opiate and Neuralgic medication side effects with be considered as reasonable grounds ?

The DWP have just updated their guidance to the Assessment Providers (APs), ATOS and Capita, so this may effect future assessments, also, it will depend on where you are in the country as ATOS are doing most of their assessments at their PIP assessment centres and Capita are aiming to do most assessments in the claimants home.

Our view at the moment is that where a home assessment is not offered, claimants will require the support of their GPs to confirm in writing, why the claimant in unable to attend at an assessment centre.

In terms of evidence, mobility problems, severe agoraphobia and social anxiety, may be sufficient but even then it is still likely that the APs will write to the GP for confirmation, so it is important to ensure that they are aware that a PIP claim is being made and have an up to date view of the limitations the claimant has.
