Apologies if this forum is not the place for this query.

My dad currently receives DLA and ESA (with support component). Today my dad received a application form from our local county council to reapply for his BLUE BADGE.

Are you able to offer any advise on completion or pitfalls of these forms at all? I've searched your site but haven't found a lot of information. I understand this may not be the place for this query, but thought I'd check as there are elements of the form which touch on the subject of DLA/PIP etc.

Would my dad's placement within the ESA support group have any relevance here? His condition is mostly connected to mobility. But can't find any reference to ESA or support group on the form itself.

BB

If your father is in receipt of DLA Higher Rate Mobility then he automatically qualifies for a Blue Badge and there should be no requirement for him to complete the detailed information on the form.

If his ESA SG award is for or includes the Mobility Descriptor then this should be sufficient evidence to support a Blue Badge application as the DWP have already assessed him as being unable to walk 50m or more, of course, you will need to supply them with something that confirms that the award is based on this Descriptor. It is possible that they will still want to assess him, but there is no good reason for them to do so.

If neither of the above apply then you will need to treat in the same way as you would for a fresh claim of DLA for HRM, our DLA guides should be of assistance, you can also reference the PIP Going Out Descriptor, in both cases the BB test should be strict but not as strict as the DLA and PIP ones.

Hi, as Gordon said there is an automatic qualification for a Blue Badge when in receipt of the higher mobility component.
I think the criteria changed some time last year when applying for a new badge and also when renewing your old one, there doesnt seem to be any difference in which the claim is for.
I have just applied to renew my badge and had to complete the whole form as a new applicant.
I know on the application form there is a question about the claim for DLA/PIP but think thats just standard procedure, the form is quite easy to complete bearing in mind the awful and complicated forms there are now.
It sounds like its just procedure, dont worry about it.
