PIP Qua;ifying Period? was created by Augustus
When I applied for PIP in January, the DWP said any award would be backdated to then, if I was successful.
But how can this be true if there is a qualifying period? - which I have only just found out about.
Is the wait three months, so that in my case I would expect an award from April?
Grateful for your feedback.

There is a qualifying period, both backward and forward (3 months and 9 months), but it does not operate in the way you think.
To make anew claim for PIP today (8 July) you need to have been needing assistance with your Care and/or Mobility since 8 April and expect to needing help until 7 April next year.
So you need to have met the qualifying period before you can make the initial claim for PIP, if you did not then your claim may be refused or your award may be put back by three months.
