Final ESA payments when moving onto a new benefit was created by mermaid
I am moving from ESA Contributions Related Support Group onto State Pension on Sat 6th September. My last payment for ESA is on Wed 27th August, so that is about a 9 day gap.
When I asked the lady in the Pension Dept today about how that shortfall part gets paid, she indicated that it doesn't and that this is true for anyone going from one benefit to another now, as if this was a newish policy.
I don't know if I misunderstood her, but I mentioned this on another forum earlier today and someone said that they had been fighting for the same issue, and it had taken 6 calls and needing to speak to a senior officer before it could be put right, and that he said that she should have the shortfall paid.
Do you have any info on this, and know which is correct? Who should I pursue it with?

I am no aware of any issues that would prevent payment.
ESA is paid fortnightly in arrears, you remain eligible for ESA until the day before you reach State Retirement Age and your pension kicks in, you should receive a part payment of ESA for the period from you last normal payment date to the date your ESA claim ceases.
Where there may be a problem is that this will likely be a manual payment as I doubt the ESA payment system can handle it, but that should not be any reason for it not to be made.
