Only paid 3 weeks DLA as last payment. was created by jaynemiddleton
Hi, this is my first time posting, although I have been a member for a while. My husband had a successful change from DLA to PIP. Thanks to the invaluable information on this site. The DLA stopped on the 19th of August and the PIP started on the 20th August. We would have been due to be paid 4 weeks DLA on the 20th of August but we were paid on the 19th and have only been paid 3 weeks money.

I phoned PIP and was told that we will receive 4 weeks PIP on the 17th of September. So we have lost out on a weeks money. The lady I spoke to would not listen to me when I tried to explain what I meant and kept repeating that we are now on PIP.

Can anyone please help me by telling me if there is anyone else I should speak to. We receive high rate for both, so have lost out on £138 which is much needed.

Thank you.

Hi

DLA should be paid for four weeks after the PIP Decision is made, how the payments are made up will depend on the dates of your normal DLA payments and when the Decision on your PIP claim was made, I have to admit that it is not clear whether the DWP try to align these things to simplify the process.

Trying to work out the dates from your post;

PIP Decision - 23/07/14?
previous DLA payment - 23/07/14
plus 3 weeks - 13/08/14
DLA finishes - 19/08/14

So by my calculation you should receive a further 6 days of DLA payment, the missing day having been part of your previous DLA payment.

In these situations I would normally expect the DWP to issue two payments one through the normal payment system and a one off payment to cover the rest, it is possible that the one off payment is still pending, but I would have expected it to have been made by now.

I would start by contacting the DWP again and if you get no joy with the call centre staff ask for it to be escalated to a manager, this usually requires a call back.

If that fails then you need to get face to face advice from a trained advisor as you will need someone who can act on your behalf when raising the issue with the DWP, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

If the dates I have used above are incorrect, please let me know and I'll try and re-calculate.

Thank you Gordon for your reply. The decision letter was dated 21st July but the other dates you put are correct. I tried several times to explain but she kept talking over me repeating that I had not lost any money. This was the number for PIP claims is there a different number I should be ringing?

The DLA help line is 0345 712 3456 according to Gov UK

www.gov.uk/disability-benefits-helpline

If I have got this correct then the dates are

PIP Decision - 21/07/14
previous DLA payment - 23/07/14
plus 3 weeks - 13/08/14
DLA finishes - 19/08/14

On this basis the PIP should have started on 18 August 2014, it appears that the DWP have allowed a month rather than 4 weeks, but the bottom line from you post is that the DLA has only been paid until 13 August.

Yes, that's how I worked it out. That we had lost 6 days. The letter states that PIP starts from20th August. I will try the new number tomorrow and update this post. Thank you for your help.
