PIP Claim was created by Karen Cox
My husband suffered a stroke on 19/2/14. He applied for PIP and had an acknowledgement letter, that was 20 weeks ago. Any idea when he is likely to be called for assessment? We work for ourselves so now he can only work at a very much reduced rate so we have very little money coming in. Can we contact the DWP or is it ATOS? Never claimed a penny before so really feel frustrated at lack of help available.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I am afraid that there are currently considerable delays in the PIP process at the moment affecting pretty much all of the country, whilst they are affecting the DWP in terms of starting claims and making Decisions the primary area of delay is in the assessment process.

You can contact the DWP to see whether they will prioritise their claim, financial hardship may be good cause, you can also contact the Assessment Provider, you mention ATOS has this been confirmed? Accepting a short notice assessment may allow you to jump the queue. Finally you can contact your MP, this is the most likely to expedite your claim.

Sorry you are in this situation - hard to be worrying about money when you want to be focussed on your husband's recovery.

You may have already tried this, but have you looked at the benefit checker on the turn2us website? (Or ask CAB for a benefit check.) Depending on the hours you both work and your income, there might be other benefits you could claim.
