Hello all, have just subscribed as am beginning the daunting task of claiming PIP to replace my son's existing DLA award as he has turned 16. I am his DWP appointee as his difficulties mean that he struggles enormously with any form of communication and lacks the organisational skills to give necssary attention to letters etc. I have seen, somewhere, a sample letter template which could be used to give to people (ie teachers etc) to fill in and potentially use for additional evidence ....this would be very useful as my son does not have any regular, ongoing medical/psychological support (mostly because he cannot engage with strangers) Does anyone know where this sample template might be????? Thankyou so much!

I've had a quick look at the PIP section in the Members area as there have been some recent updates, but I can't see anything like what you are referring to.
You should be able to create one though based on the PIP Descriptors that you feel are appropriate to your son's limitations and those that you think his teachers would be able to comment on.
I would create a page for each Descriptor with the legal definition and all of the Sub-Descriptors but without the scoring points, so that you cannot be seen to be leading the person, finally add a comments box for them to add any additional information that they are willing to provide. You should make sure that all of the pages are numbered in the form "page x of y" and should have your son's full name and NIN at the top, make sure that they are securely fastened together.

Thankyou - have changed name! My son is autistic and suffers social anxiety and selective mutism, so many of the descriptors don't appear, at face value, to offer the scope needed to eplain how his difficulties impact on him day to day! As he refuses or is unable to engage in any therapeutic intervention from professionals, the only ongoing support and involvement comes from us and from his special school - so yes, I think taking the time to ask staff to fill out a form based on the questionnaire will be worth the effort, as it will hopefully help to paint a fuller picture of how he is affected by someone who is not family and therefore more detached!

It is important that you realise that your son's claim will only be awarded PIP by your showing that he meets the PIP Descriptors, there are no cover-all Regulations that can result in award based on an overall appreciation of your son's problems, he has to score enough points for an award.

Yes I can see that - sorry,probably didn't explain myself properly, what i meant is that in the absence of bang up to date evidence from medical professionals (as it is not a 'medical' condition), the additional input from school professionals may be useful and add credibility to his and my account of how he fits the descriptors and how his day to day life is affected in the context of them
