Mental Health - front door broken for access was created by andyf25
Hi -
Unsure if this a topic for the site, but here goes.
I'm 51, and had to give up a long career last year due to my health. I'm on ESA and PIP due severe mental health problems. I've been hospitalised several times due to overdoses.
Recently the police had to break through my front door to let paramedics in after a carer reported a suspected overdose and then locked themselves out. I was taken by ambulance to hospital and was an inpatient on a drip for 3 days.
I've now had an invoice for £200 from a company appointed by the police to secure my damaged front door while I was in hospital.
I'm a divorced single Dad in a tiny rented flat, living on those benefits - I'm really not able to shell out £200.
I have not yet responded to the invoice, but had missed phone calls from the repair company - they can only have got my number from the police.
Can anyone kindly offer any advice on how to proceed? Tell them my benefit and health situation and ask them to consider a write off? Or let them go through a small claims court and offer a couple of quid a week?
I'm in considerable distress over this.
With thanks and kind regards,
Andy

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I wish that we could offer some advice but this out of area of advice on the forum, the best thing I can suggest is for you to try and get face to face advice from a local advisor, my immediate though is the CAB as this is not strictly a benefit issue and they deal with wider issues, but failing that do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or count.
