child dla claim ?? was created by Dollydee
Hi Guys

I am thinking about possibly applying for dla for my daughter who is 8 years old. She is classed as special educational at school due to dyslexia, but school are not providing the level of help she needs therefore she is not making progress. I hope to claim dla so that she can have a private tutor at home for a few hours a week and pay for this from the dla allowance. Would dyslexia be considered for dla ? And would she have to go through agony of tests and mind picking from dla doctors and medical assessments same as adults do ?
She finds it distressing enough at school and don't want her to be stress out any more than what she is already. Can you please give any advise on this sensitive subject as I am at a crossroads without a map !!!!!
Thanks Dolly dee x x

Hi,

In order to claim DLA for a child, you will have to show that your daughter has more care needs than others of her age. You would need to fill in the form on her behalf but I cannot say whether or not she would be asked to attend a face2face assessment. This largely depends on how much information is included on the form.

Have you looked at out DLA guides? They should help give you a feel for whether it might be worth putting in a claim.
