I applied for pip in October 2014, I phoned dwp yesterday just to find out if there was any progress. I was told it had been to a health care professional and had been forwarded to dwp case worker. What does this mean

Welcome to the forum

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

It means that the Assessment Provider has been able to make a recommendation based on your PIP2 form and the evidence attached and their report has been sent to a Decision Maker to see whether an award can be made.

We would expect you to hear in about 2-5 weeks.

Thankyou for the information it's a real help. I used the site to fill in my pip forum which was extremely helpful as I have servere copd stage 3. As anyone been successful in getting a pip award for copd. It would be interesting to know. With my pip been is with a case manager does this mean I have not to go for a face to face assessment.

The recommendation has been made without the need for a face to face.

Hi MMB,

"With my pip been is with a case manager does this mean I have not to go for a face to face assessment."

Yes, it means that The Assessment Provider (The Medical Company that carry out the PIP assessments for The DWP. ATOS or Capita) have looked at the paper evidence that you have provided, and decided that you have provided enough for them to make their recommendations in the form of a Medical Report, without you having to undergo a face to face "Medical".

This Medical Report will now have been returned to The DWP "case manager" (PIP Decision Maker) who will make the final decision on whether you qualify for PIP, and if you do, at what "Rate".

Now that it is with The DWP "case manager" you should contact The PIP Helpline for further updates :

PIP helpline :

Telephone: 0345 850 3322

Textphone: 0345 601 6677

Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm

How long it will take The DWP to make the final decision and inform you is an unknown, and will be dependent on the work load of that particular office/team.

I would certainly give it a couple of weeks before contacting them for an update.

Remember, PIP is awarded for the limitations/disabilities that you suffer as result of your medical conditions, rather than the condition itself. (in the vast majority of cases)

So, as the title of The PIP 2 Form suggests, it is "How your disability affects You".

However, other members are welcome to relate their own personal experiences regarding a PIP application and COPD. :)
