 Hi all,

New to benefits and confused by Atos letter. Applied for PIP 8 months ago. Received letter stating not going for medical just a consultation with a health Professional. Is this standard practise?

Hi J,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

That is because it is not a "medical" in the true sense of the word, although there "may" be some very basic tests/examination.

The Consultation will be carried out to assess whether or not you score enough points to qualify for either PIP Daily Living or PIP Mobility (Going Out/Moving Around) or both.

If you read from Page 64 onwards of our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page) you will see information on what to expect.

If you didn't use the above guide when filling in your PIP 2 "How your Disability Affects You" Form you could have a read through it in totality, to give you a better understanding.

You could also take our : PIP Self Test

Don't forget, the PIP Assessor will probably be a lot stricter than yourself with the scoring.

The latest edition on Advice Given to PIP Assessors can be seen Here.

Please reply to this topic with any other related queries that you might have.

As it seems that your assessment is with ATOS, see : Here.

Good Luck !!

Please keep us updated.

Julie

I am afraid both Assessment Providers have a policy of over booking for assessments at their offices, as a result they are unable to deal with an assessor being unavailable on the day, hopefully a new appointment will be arranged at a closed office and actually held, if not then you might want to think about making a complaint.

Hi J,

As Gordon, states they do overbook appointments.

The scenario of offering Assessments at Centres outside your area is being discussed on rightsnet : Here.

As you will read, traveling time to and from the Assessment should be estimated as if Public Transport is being used, including all other necessary legs of the journey.

This should not exceed 90 minutes, either way.

Phoned Atos centre today. After being kept on the line for over 10 minutes whilst the woman on the other end scrolled through lists of available appointments mumbling away to herself she then told me she couldn't find anything and would put an appointment in the post, hopefully nearer than 23 miles when she found something.
