advice please was created by sharon
Hi I have lupus, sjorgrens, raynauds, and fibro, I was on ESA for a few months, recently I found a part time job working 16 hours a week.
I feel better mentally for working but not physically, I am struggling with joint pains and tiredness.
Is there any help available for me?
I want to continue to work if possible, thanks.

Hi s,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

I know that you say that you wish to carry on working, but if it is too much to cope with, and no more than 12 weeks have elapsed since you closed your ESA Claim, you could obtain a fit note from your G.P. and make a rapid reclaim.

If outside the 12 week linking period, you could make a fresh claim for ESA. Again, you would need a fit note from your G.P.

Whilst in receipt of ESA you are allowed to do "Permitted Work" (PW) :

There is further information regarding PW 5th link down this page :

ESA Claims Guides

See also : Permitted Work

Of course that is only a decision that you can make.

Failing that, if you wish to remain in employment, you could make a claim for PIP, which is an "in-work" benefit.

You can claim and receive PIP even if you are working full time.

See : The PIP Self Test

&

PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page)

Hi I just did the test and I don't think I would get any points?
I feel it is for people with very limited capabilities, it seems all or nothing to me.
I'm probably in the middle.
Anyone any experiences with similar situation?

Hi s,

There are Standard PIP awards where you only have to score minimum 8 points, as well as the Enhanced awards where you have to score minimum 12 points.
