I am currently in the Support Group on the basis that a requirement to work would significantly harm my mental health. I understand that the regulations have been redesigned to favour men and I am female although I have a high risk condition and possibly two personal factors depending on how they interpret them. I am due to be reassessed sometime soon but I have no idea what the process is. Do you have to start the whole process again? Will I be significantly disadvantaged because I am female? My condition has not changed and is still highly unstable. It all seems like a complicated mess and is causing me a lot of anxiety. Also, the form now is even more restrictive and unhelpful than the last one I filled in. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

In the vast majority of cases claimants should receive a new ESA50 when they are being re-assessed once they have completed this and returned it with any available evidence, a decision will be made on whether a face to face assessment is required. Whether one is or not an assessment report will be prepared with recommendations on whether the claimant meets the criteria or not and a Decision Maker will then decide on what award to make.

Although the Decision Maker would need to justify moving you out of the Support Group, if you qualified under the Exceptional Circumstances, which appears to be the case, then you must demonstrate that you still meet these requirements, you cannot rely on your previously having qualified as reason for you to remain in the SG.

I want to stress that the changes are not to the ESA legislation, Regulations or Descriptors, they only affect the guidance issued by the DWP in regard to this area, I am not suggesting that this has not potentially made it more difficult to qualify for the SG through this route, but it has most certainly not removed it.

Have a look at our current ESA guides, they explain the changes and how they affect claimants. See
