severe disability payment was created by cossack
Hi,
Am confused about this payment, and whether I would be entitled to claim it. I suffer from secondary progressive multiple sclerosis and am in receipt of high rate care and mobility DLA and last year was placed in the ESA support group. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Cossack,

The first thing to be aware of is that premiums are only payable if you receive any income-related ESA, they are not payable if your ESA is entirely contributory. If you are not currently getting IR ESA and think you might be entitled (even 1p ) then you should ask DWP for an ESA3 form to assess your financial situation.

This link gives you more information about the premiums

You may still be eligible for an Income Related ESA top-up to your ESA(CB). ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If you think that you are then you should request an ESA3 from the DWP so they can check your eligibility
