@Gordon, so you're saying that, if I initiate a new PIP claim, it's very unlikely to cause a re-assessment of my ESA award? That's my main concern as they basically awarded me the best possible award that I could get.

My DLA, on the other hand, is just not proportionate to my condition and how it affects me on a daily basis. The reason why I didn't appeal was just due to exhaustion, I couldn't take the pain to dispute it. I sort of disagreed at the time but thought it was better than nothing, so I just shut up. My specialist wrote a bit on my form but he wasn't much help otherwise. Now I realize after getting proper advice I should have been getting a lot more, in my opinion.

Hi jnms,

What Gordon is rightly stating is that it "shouldn't" instigate a reassessment of your ESA, and that we are not aware of any members where this has occurred.

Esther McVey reiterated this when she was Minister for The Disabled.

I trust you are already aware that the qualifying criteria for PIP is very different to that of DLA :

PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page)

I am afraid that ultimately, only you can make this decision.

Thanks bro,

I was just wondering in what main ways are DLA criteria different from PIP criteria.

I mean, PIP criteria being different could either work in my favor or against me.

My impression is that PIP is harder to get but not necessarily in all cases.

Hi jnms,

PIP vs. DLA – similarities and differences are covered from Page 3 of The PIP Claims Guide that I provided the blue link for in my previous post.

Main differences, PIP is points based, DLA was not.

Claimants with mental health issues may find it easier to gain a PIP Mobility Award.

A considerable number of DLA recipients who currently have a HR DLA Mobility Award, may find it very difficult to obtain an Enhanced PIP Mobility Award, as the benchmark distance used in the Moving Around "Walking" test has been reduced from 50 Metres to 20 Metres.

If you take our PIP self test marking yourself very strictly you may get some idea of any potential entitlement to a PIP Award.

Hi jnms,

There is also a section entitled "Winners and losers under PIP" from Page 79 onwards of our PIP Claims Guide.

Cheers bro -- I've downloaded all your guides. They are very useful but are quite intimidating if you are unwell, so I guess I was putting it off. I will get to reading it now.

The guides are comprehensive which gives a lot to digest. Unfortunately, making them shorter would mean leaving out information that could be vital for some people :)

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
