PIP MEDICAL - REQUESTED TO GO A LONG WAY FROM HOME was created by brokendown
Hi There
I am writing on behalf of a friend who has just been called for a PIP Medical, almost 8 months after completing his PIP form. H e has been invited to a Medical Assessment about 14 miles away form his home, this is causing him great distress as he is worried about eh venue, how to get there and so what would you recommend?
He is a man aged almost 64 years and this whole matter is distressing him.
Many thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I am afraid the DWP guidance allows for claimants to be asked to make a 90 minute trip each way for the assessment, they may be able to swap the appointment to an assessment centre closer to their home but it will use up one their two "appointments" and they will have to attend the new one or risk having their claim closed.
Alternatively they can request a home assessment but they will need their GP to write to the Assessment Provider explaining why a home assessment is required.

When my wife had her DLA assessment as part of a mantatory review it was ATOS who decided on a home visit.
When I recently had to complete a PIP form for her I just requested another home visit & she was granted one.
