Work Choice Programme. was created by weymouth321
I claim ESA in come related ; wrag group. Have severe rheumatoid arthritis. Look out to Mum, whom
has mixed dementia. We share the care with my 2 sisters, whom both work. The Jobcentre suggest
I claim Carer`s Allowance, but I tell them I am unable to do 35 hours per week, due to my condition and hence we share the care. My sister`s boyfriend does also put in some hours looking
out to Mum every week. My advisor wants to place me on this Work Choice. Not
Work Programme. It is intensive and requires 3 sessions per week. I am unable to commit, due to Mum. They want to get me back into 16 hours paid work per week. I certainly do not want
Mum to go in to a home until the time comes when she does not recognise us; has loosed it.
I feel very strongly about this. Mum lives alone. Forgotton how to cook. what day, date and time it is. Forgets to take her meds if none of us are there to prompt her. Repeats incessantly.
I am only willing to start the Work Choice , when Mum has gone into a home and this could
be next year ; who knows. Any advice ? Many Thanks, J.

I assume you are in the WRAG.

First of all, while you are receiving ESA you are not required to work or to seek work, so it does not matter if your JC+ advisor wants to get you back into paid work, you only need to do this when and if you believe that you are capable of doing so.

Work Choice is a voluntary scheme so the decision is yours.

www.gov.uk/work-choice/overview

However if you do not do this scheme then your advisor may forward you to the Work Programme (WP), where activities would be mandated and your benefit can be sanctioned if you fail to comply.

If you can manage the 35 hours for Carers Allowance then they cannot put you on the WP, so it may be worth thinking about this again, however, you should not apply unless you can manage the 35 hour every week.

Many Thanks Gordon,
Yes, I am in the WRAG group. ESA and income related and DLA
low rate care award.
Carer`s Allowance ; 35 hours, and my dis` advisor tells me this includes sleeping over
in these 35 hours per week.
Other possibility is Carer`s Credit ; 20 hours per week. Again, these hours includes
sleeping over at Mum`s place.
I realise one does not get payment for C.C. Only I.S. stamps.
Dis` advisor , at Jobcentre is mailing Pluss , the Work Choice, asking if they can be
flexible with their weekly sessions, due to looking out to Mum and The RA condition.
If I do volunteer to go on it.
Anything further to add ?
Many Thanks, J.
