Industrial Injuries|Disablement Injuries was created by Tigerman
Hi there
Having been on IB for ten years now I was taken of and put on contribution based ESA and my benefits were sopped in March, I then requested a Mandatory Reconsideration to which I sent of the requested letter and also telephoned the department confirming I wanted to do this. About Two months after I sent the letter I got a reply not about the reconsideration but saying it was noted that I had my accident that caused all of this at work and I might be able to claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. what surprised me more is that as I say it has been ten years since I first had my accident and they are only just bringing it up and also the amount of stuff that they are asking for I just don't have after ten years like wage slips and the likes. My question is do benefits and work have any guides to this benefit that help the same as all the other guides that give so much help and information as I cannot see any guides like these on the forum. Thanks Tm.

I'm afraid we do not advise on IIDB on the forum it requires specialist knowledge and each case is unique to the claimant.
The following fact sheet will provide an overview and you may be able to find a trained advisor by doing an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

It has to have been listed as an accident at work when it happened and you would have been provided with info to see what was then a DWP doctor all those yeears ago.
If it was not listed as an accident at work then you have no chance of getting IIB, unless it can be proved for instance, pneumococic etc at a later stage.

Hi tigerman, I wouldn't get too excited re claiming this benefit as even if you get it, it is only backdated for three months regardless of when you had your work related injury. I knew nothing of this benefit until through my own research I obtained information about it. It is not widely advertised and you need accident at work reports to back up your claim. You can get up to date information from your local job centre regarding this elusive benefit. Good luck.

Caiti, see my message above which relates to your topic.
It is not advertised as you only claim it via a certified accident at work as it legilates. The HSA usually certifies it only once the accident at work has been established. This is the same for a pneumocosis etc.
The DWP establish a % via an OH Dr.
This benefit is up for a change as disussed recently, as will ESA/DLA/PIP and it seems all these will be Income Related only.
A paper has already been assessed and probably we will all hear the outcome from the Queens speach.

Looks like I will end up losing every benefit I am entitled to if means testing comes in force....it is sad that the most vulnerable people in society are the ones that are targeted the hardest.... IDS and Cameron , pity you don't suffer like all of us who post messages to help one another and fear the day when we think Ohhh how are we going to get past the next day with our disabilities and illnesses...
