private pension was created by Leonard
Hello my question is whether the DWP will stop my benefit if I have a monthly income from my pension as it will not amount to much as I am receiving the ESA benefit at the moment and am worried that taking my private pension now will cause me a problem is this correct if you could be of service to my problem I would be grateful thanks

If you are receiving any Income Related ESA then the pension will be deducted £ for £.
If you are receiving Contribution Based ESA then there is an £85/week disregard followed by a £1/week deduction for £2/week of pension.
So if you pension is £100/week then any ESA(IR) will be reduced by £100 and any ESA(CB) by £7.50 (£100 - £85 = £15 / 2 = £7.50).
If you receive both then it will be deducted from the ESA(IR) first and any remaining amount will then be deducted from your ESA(CB).

Hello Gordon,
Thanks you for your reply it was very helpful.
However I forgot to mention that I am in the support group and receive no income related ESA.
Could you please tell me if being in the support group makes a difference with regards to private pension income.
Regards.

Being in the SG makes no difference to the situation.
If you are only receiving ESA(CB) then any deductions will be as I indicated in my previous post, even if you do not meet the threshold for a deduction to be made you should still inform the DWP to avoid issues later on.
