ESA to DLA/PIP was created by aw9358
I first applied for and received contributions-based IB in 2007. I was then transferred to ESA and initially put in the WRAG. I just wrote a letter asking DWP to reconsider and was placed in the Support Group. My question is: is it worth applying for PIP? I cannot envisage being in a position to return to work (I am 58). I have fibromyalgia, joint hypermobility syndrome (a form of EDS) and depression/anxiety. It would be very useful to not have to pay for prescriptions, and a blue badge would help my life considerably.

I have never had to undergo a medical or interview, and I wonder whether to put myself through applying for PIP. Would it affect my current ESA status? I would be grateful for any advice you can give me.

Hi aw9358,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

ESA assesses your Capability for Work, PIP is a totally different benefit with different qualifying criteria and assesses you Daily Living and Mobility limitations along with your Care needs.

You can work full time and still receive PIP !

Applying for PIP should not have an adverse effect on your SG ESA award.

You can take our : PIP Self Test which should give you an indication on your potential to qualify for a PIP Award.

Our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page) takes you through the whole PIP Claims process.

Please reply to this topic if you have any further queries.

PIP has nothing to do with whether or not you pay for prescriptions. In order to be entitled to free prescriptions you need to be receiving Income Related benefits or to have applied for an exemption certificate on the grounds of low income. Failing that, you could buy a pre-payment certificate.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
