Housing costs on ESA was created by Alison
I have just received a letter this morning that my housing costs will be reduced in 2 weeks due to a change in my circumstances. However, nothing has changed and my mortgage is fixed rate. They are not open to contact until Monday morning. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?

I'm sorry but without more information any suggestion would just be a guess.

Just in case anyone is interested, It wasn't a change in my circumstances as the letter said, but an across the board drop in the interest rate that the government are prepared to pay towards the mortgage interest, so a lot of people will be getting a reduction in help.

What rate have they dropped it to Alison? I think it was 3.63% before.

Hi DJ,

"The standard interest rate used to calculate SMI is 3.63%. From 6 July 2015, the rate will be 3.12%."

From : Gov.Uk. SMI

See also : The Guardian Article on SMI.

I'll lock this topic as SMI is not really within the forum remit.
