Was there any need to inform DWP

Hi
My daughter finished college and went to University last September. She is living at the University Campus 100 miles away from me. I informed HMRC child tax credit and child benefits last September that she went to Uni. She never claimed ESA or job seekers allowance. She was and is a student. I am on income based ESA, DLA, CA and CT and I have never claimed housing benefits.

My questions are:

Was there any need to inform DWP too?

Is it too late to tell them without getting into trouble? I assumed that HMRC child tax credit and child benefits would have informed DWP that she left home and is studying at University.

If she comes during summer holiday and stay with me do I need to tell DWP and council tax? And if she manages to find a part-time job during summer would it affect my benefits?

Thank you for your assisstance.

And anyone else reading this post, informing one Government agency of a Change of Circumstances does not discharge your responsibility to inform all of the agencies that need to know of that change, this applies even to unit within the DWP, so telling the ESA team of a change does do mean that you do not have to inform the DLA/PIP unit as well.

If you were living alone, your daughter would not count whilst she was still a child. If you are receiving the Severe Disability Premium (SDP), then her becoming an adult will affect this payment while she is at home and you must contact the DWP about this, this will also be the case while she is living with you over the summer.

If you are not receiving the SDP and you are receiving DLA Care at the Medium or Higher rate, you live alone and no one is receiving Carers Allowance for you then you may eligible for this Premium and should contact the DWP about it.

Your daughter living with you or not living with you will have an impact on any Housing Benefit you receive and your Council Tax.

Thank you for your reply.

By the way My partner has been living with me and she doesn't (and no one) claim carer allowance in looking after me. She is a joint claim on my ESA. I claim Carer allowance in looking after my autistic child. I am on higher care component and do not get Severe Disability Premium. I did ask DWP why I am not eligible for SDP and I was told because I live with someone and I claim CA for my son.

Does it matter or make difference to tell DWP that my daughter is living else where since September.

Thanks

Your daughter is not part of your claim, so no, you do not need to inform the DWP.
