Hi, my husband has received a form saying he has to fill it in to migrate over onto ESA from SDA he is blind in one eye and partially sighted in his other eye. He cannot read or write due to sight issues and must be accompanied outside for his own safety at all times. I have filled the form in for him and sent it back with a registration document showing him to be partially sighted. He has other health issues of Diabetes, high blood pressure, hemorhoids, obesity, arthritis. We do not know or understand the benefits system. what do you think his chances are of being put into the support group and will he need to go to a medical?

Sight problems would be directly relevant to two of the ESA Descriptors; Communicating - hearing and reading (Q7) and Getting Around Safely (Q8),

If you have a look at the WCA Handbook, guidance from the DWP on how assessments should be carried out, sections 3.2.7 and 3.2.9 cover these Descriptors, there is a copy of the Handbook in the ESA section of the Members Only area. In particular the former entry covers the sight tests that a claimant would be expected to have had.
