Compliance visit was created by mads
Dear members,
I was bamboozled by a compliance officer in March who claimed he was 'passing by my house so knocked on off chance'. I let him in as I was pretty intimidated , fearful that if I didnt allow access my benefits might be stopped. So, he saw how very ill I am and said obviously I wasnt well enough to attend an office visit. My carer went mad when I said I had let a stranger in. I must add he did show me his badge and was polite enough. She phoned the Jobcentre plus and complained about the spot check visit. They apologised, said nothing to worry about, was a mistake, that I wasnt down for any reviews etc...

So fast forward to April, I receive a compliance request letter asking me to go into my local jobcenter plus office. Carer phoned and informed them that this was impossible and was told, 'we will do a home visit'. She asked why and was told it was a random check. So fast forward 3 months , I receive a letter stating i am to receive a home compliance visit end of July. The letter lists things to have ready, the usual ID, bank statement etc....

My question is what is this compliance thing and how should it be handled.? I have read that compliance equates with fraud squad. I got nothing to hide but as we all know that doesnt count for much. If the compliance guy wanted documents or had questions why didnt he ask for them on that first' just passing by' visit . The visit, the letters, all come from the same guy from jobcentre plus. BTW: I am long term sick and disabled, gratefully receiving ESA and higher rate DLA. I can supply a plethora of medical reports and letters from specialists and Dr's but he isnt interested. I would really welcome your thoughts and advice. Thank you.

Compliance visits can be generated for a number of reasons, most often claimants are selected at random for the pleasure but it can be because something unusual has been flagged on your claim or it could be that someone has reported you to the Fraud Line.

Our experience from the forum is that the vast majority of these interviews find that there is no issue and no further action is taken, my impression is that in many cases, once the process has been started it has to be finished even if it is clear that there is no point in doing so.

You are entitled to have someone with you on the day and I would encourage you to arrange for this if you possibly can.

Best of luck

Gordon
