PPI Medical date and now panicing was created by lollo1
Had recently asked on here about should I contact DWP about date for medical, well I didn't need to as they sent a letter for our daughter to go Nov 4th. She is autistic in a wheelchair and struggles to communicate with others. This was all put in the pip form. I rang and explained this to the DWP and that the only way we can get her out is with earphones on and her DS due to her sensory issues. The lady I spoke to said I was her voice as I was her appointee. Now I am worried that if she refuses to speak it may hinder her claim. Does anyone else have any advice to offer as I feel sick to the stomach about it.

If you are her appointee then it has already been accepted that your daughter cannot act on her own behalf in these matters, so it should not be an issue for you to speak at least in part, on her behalf.

Have you tried to get a home assessment, you will need her GP to write to the Assessment Provider to explain why it is necessary, but it may offer a less traumatic way for hew to be assessed.

Thanks Gordon, it is only 2 weeks away now and our GP's are not the best. However I was thinking about going to see our GP anyway to update him about my daughter and have it noted on her records just in case the DWP wanted to confirm anything with him. I just wasn't sure how it would affect the medical if she refuses to speak as she often does when outdoors. She attends a specialist school, can't cook or prepare food, needs her clothes chosen and put out for her every day, has communication and social difficulties, can't bath or wash her hair herself, needs help cutting up her food, is unable to travel anywhere alone and is unable to plan and navigate a familiar journey. She has taxi provided to and from 6th form and a letter from her consultant saying that she is unable to use public transport due to her autism and sensory issues. I am really at my wits end and dreading the outcome as I have a feeling that she will lose her entitlement. All the money we get goes on her and enables her to access services that we would of been unable to without her DLA. I have a feeling I need to make myself familiar with the appeals process before it is upon us.

Loll

If your daughters problems include an inability to communicate with others then it should be understood by the assessor that they are going to need assistance in explaining their difficulties.

Someone has been on the phone from Atos and said they are going to look at doing a Paper Bases Assessment. They asked for her consultants details although it should also be in the forms they already have along with all of her reports. I thanked them very much but made it clear that we can attend but she is unlikely to be able to answer the questions fully or even understand what they are asking. So I shall just have to wait it out now and see what happens. I have contacted her consultants secretary this afternoon and explained the areas where she struggles and that Atos may make contact about my daughters condition/disability. Just hoping that if they go for a paper based assessment it does not affect the decision in a negative way.
