PIP - How many adapted cars are being taken away?

Hi,
I've got CMT so am in the group that will struggle when my Pip"invitation" arrives.

My motability car is adapted for me with hand controls since I cant use my feet, which I think cost about 800-1000 to install.

I'm trying to think ahead and plan for the very worst happening, and have come across the figure of £2000 being given as a grant should my car go, but once I've spent £1000 adapting it, I can't see I'll get much of a car for £1000. Certainly not a reliable, safe one anyway! :(

Does anyone know where I might find recent stats for the number of adapted cars being taken? I know there was mention of only 3 in 3000, but that was back in march and far more decisions have been taken in the meantime.

Many thanks.

I read a recent report saying 60% of higher rate mobility is expected to be refused under the move from DLA to PIP.
There were 850,000 ish such claimants so expect around 500,000 ish to lose their money.
I Have also found a figure of around 600,000 motability vehicles so 60% could go, thats around 360,000 vehicles over the next three years.
I'm surprised the motor industry didn't take this more seriously. Thats a lot of new car sales to lose!!
Unfortunately there are no figures I can find on how many vehicles are adapted.

Hi, I have just been "invited" to claim PIP as my DLA is finishing. I would have prefered a party invite!

I currently drive an adapted vehicle and because of this the lease was renewed for a further 2 years. I have just received a Motability pack to choose a new car but can,t until PIP decision.

My adaptations cost £2,600 after an assessment at one of the specialist centres, and I hold out no hope of getting a higher award purely on the anecdotal evidence that one reads about. It seems somewhat of a lottery.

I will keep you posted as to the outcome. On my reconing it will be a "surprise" Christmas present, either way.

Hey mommaduck..

Yikes...so a £2000 grant will be utterly useless for you then? :(

Just appalling.

Do they really think we'd be driving adapted cars if we had any other choice?

All my friends can't understand why I'm so worried about losing my car, since to their mind its very very obvious that I'm disabled and need an adapted car;they are then incredulous when I explain that I appear to be not disabled enough and that this counts for nothing apparently!

Good luck with your PIP claim. Crossing things for you.

Thanks foss,

It does seem to be very hard to get the figures for this doesn't it?

Ah well.

I shall just have to wait and see.
