Not Expected Result From DLA to PIP Transfer was created by nickbarton
My 16 yo son is autistic, probably PDA and attends a specialist school run by the NAS. We provided his diagnosis letter and his EHCP.
He was on middle care and low mobility DLA.
The decision is enhanced care but no mobility. They say that they consider that he can understand verbal information unaided and that he can understand basic and complex written information unaided. This is despite his EHCP saying he had a reading age of 8 and his that he displays a significant language and communication disorder which is a fundamental barrier to his learning and social relationships. He has a complex profile which includes dyslexic tendencies.
On the mobility side they consider that he needs prompting from another person to undertake a journey to avoid causing mental distress which scores him 4 points.
On the form I stated that he could not even plan a journey over a familiar route and would not undertake any journey unaccompanied even in a taxi. The school added that after four weeks he still could not find his way to the toilet without help.
I don't know what other information I can give them. Any ideas?

The DWP have a perverse view of what is required to follow a familiar or unfamiliar route, they seem to think that prompting can deal with all the problems that a claimant might face.
Have a look at the PIP appeal documents in the members area for a more detailed explanation and documents and strategies for arguing against this.
