Can anyone please tell me the grounds to not attend an ATOS medical, someone I know has recently received an appointment and is very vulnerable mentally, and her condition has worsened since receiving the appointment. Thank you

Hi,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

If your forum name is also your real name, you may wish to change it to maintain some anonymity.

This can be done quite easily by following the instructions on this FAQ :

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

As PIP Assessment Providers, ATOS and indeed Capita have a duty of care to make reasonable adjustments for PIP claimants who have mobility issues or problems in going out.

You could contact ATOS : E-mail link to the top right of this page. and inform them of your friend's limitations.

They may well insist that your friend obtains a letter from their G.P. or other treating HCP to support the fact that they cannot travel to a Consultation Centre, and a Home Assessment may be arranged instead.

ATOS may insist that the G.P. Faxes the letter of support to them, and I must pre-warn you that they are much more reluctant to offer Home Assessments than Capita.

You can re-arrange a Consultation appointment once, this being the case, one would have to ensure that they took part in the second consultation or their PIP Claim may be disqualified.

Even though the following topic is with respect to challenging Capita for a Home Assessment, the same rules regarding "Reasonable Adjustments", etc apply to ATOS as they too are a "Public Service Provider".

Seen : Here.

You can read what to expect at a PIP face to face assessment from around Page 70 of our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link down the page)

Good luck and please let us know how you get on ! :)
