My PIP claim was created by Heffy
Hi. I have just received the letter inviting me to claim PIP with the details of how to do this. Im needing to get my head around this and whilst expected it is somewhat stressful to deal with, but I will phone them as soon as I can cope with it. The date on the letter to phone by is 7 December. Can I just ask is that the date that I have to return the form by as well ie by delaying a few days in phoning for a form am I lessening the time I then have to fill in and return the form. Thanks.

Hi H,

The initial phone call is to initiate your transfer over to PIP, and they will fill in the basic PIP 1 Form with you over the phone.

You should then receive copy of the filled in PIP 1 Form through the post for you to read through, sign and return if you agree with the contents.

Once you have signed and returned The PIP 1 Form, you should then receive The PIP 2 "How your Disability Affects You" Questionnaire through the post to fill in and return.

It is the PIP 2 where you should go into detail about your medical conditions and resulting limitations, and it is with this form that you should attach any supporting letters or medical evidence.

As long as you abide by any deadlines given to return forms etc, within the transfer process, your current level of DLA payments will continue until 4 weeks after the date of the new PIP decision, no matter what that PIP decision may be.

The whole transfer process is covered in our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link down the page)

Where there are links to download "samples" of The PIP 1 and PIP 2 for your perusal.

If you do not think that you will be able to fill in The PIP 1 form over the phone, you can request that they post one out to you when you ring up.

Again, it would be important that you abided by any deadline dates given.

If when you receive the PIP 2 Form you are struggling to fill it in and return it by the deadline, you can request a two week extension.

Thank for your prompt reply and advice, great as always. I have now phoned and await receiving the form in the coming days. Just a few questions at this stage - I am in receipt of ESA Support Group, should I refer to this in my PIP claim and even submit a photocopy of the decision letter as to how that was reached? With my ESA claim I believe I stated that because my condition is neurological should I be need to be assessed f2f (which I wasnt) I would expect to be seen by a doctor understanding neurological conditions. Do I need to state this for PIP claim ie is it wise to do so or not to say this? Finally I also submitted for my ESA claim a lot of medical evidence from conferences and the internet about my condition as it is rare to help the assessor understand it. Am I allowed to do this with the PIP claim or should I just stick to information directly from my own medical people and from my friends and carers dealing with me? Thank you.

You can submit your ESA claim paperwork. They may well have retrieved it anyway.

Regarding the HCP who carries out the f2f if needed, they probably won't take any notice of your request. It'll be whoever is on that day.

For that reason it would be reasonable, I think, to include paperwork about your condition you have found on the web, especially if you can link it to the answers you give on the PIP2. ie this paper explains x which contributes to my difficulties in carrying out descriptor y in a timely manner. etc.

I made the phone call to say I wanted to apply for PIP last Friday 13th(!). She then said the form would follow in a few days, for me to complete, unless they had any further questions to ask me and if that was the case they would ring me within 2 weeks. To date I have received no phone call and no form. Can I ask how long approximately people are waiting to receive the form. Not that I am in any great rush, haha ;-) but I dont want to just be here and wait if the form has been sent but not received by me, or indeed been overlooked by them. The lady did say that if you havent had a phone call or forms in 2/3 weeks ring them. Thats all very good if a form has got mislaid in post and this would no doubt affect my deadline for returning by shortening it. Thankyou. This is such a minefield and I a feel I am needing to be spoonfed, sorry and thanks very much.

If you still haven't received it by the middle of next week then I would chase them about it.
