My PIP claim

Heffy, unfortunately you are right. Unlike ESA, PIP claims can be refused without a face2face assessment Here's hoping this will not happen to you, but if it does we will do our best to guide you through the process.

I have just finally received the decision after what seems like an eternity of sheer anguish and anxiety. The process for me began in November. I did not have a face to face assessment but had a letter about a month ago to say that they had enough information to make a decision. I have hear today I shall receive enhanced rate of the daily living for 6 years but no award at all for mobility. I had previously received the middle rate of care and higher rate of mobility, the latter going to Motability. So whilst I have increased on the daily living I lose my Motability car. My initial thoughts and reaction whilst gutted about my car returning is that having received something I dont think I feel able to ask for reconsideration and then to go to appeal in case I lose everything. I have had a Motability car since 1992 and have vastly deteriorated in all ways since then. Any thoughts and advice would be welcome.

Thanks Gordon. Im not sure if i replied to this overnight when I lay awake worrying and if I did i apologise. i was so all over the place that could not think what I was doing since the decision. I think i received 13 or 14 for daily living. With the lack of mobility award (I got 4 points!) I really could not have put more information together regarding how it is a struggle to walk from room to room without stopping in each room for a sit down or even lie down and much much more. My evidence suppoted all I had to say, from my Consultant and carer and neighbours and friends, the fact that i have a wheel chair that I need someone else to push me outside and I have a mobility scooter which is kept indoors so that I only need to get on it indoors and then have a concrete ramp fitted directly from the back door. i explained I cannot safely walk more then 10 metres and then not reliably, safely or repeated, as I have had many many falls and my condition is such that I would not recover if I fell and I can only stand for a matter of seconds before the pain is excrutiating. I gave such detailed info which is why I cannot understand not receiving the mobilty award. I did address the going out too but got no points for those. I felt there was a lot said itn the letter from them that didnt match what i had put and totally dismissed it, like I was making it up and they were saying that my illness would not make me like that over a number of the things I wrote. i was truthful and totally honest. Everyone is different with illness and disability so how can they say there is a 'template' of what the illness makes people like. I didnt have a f2f so they didnt even see me to know how far i can walk or how I struggle, get breathless and in terrible pain, plus very wobbily. Im undecided what to do as like I said yesterday I dont want to lose the enhanced rate of daily living by asking for it to all be looked at again, but the other part of me feels I should have received the mobility component as all the info was there. I have just renewed my membership and it has reminded me to thank you incredible guys on here so very much for all your hardwork, support, advice and endless hours that you all put in. To update I decided with the help of relatives and friends to buy my Motability car and I must say Motability were amazing with help, support, guidance and financial aid every step of the way. Having had Motability cars for 24 years and then losing my entitlement to one under the changeover from DLA to PIP its being a very difficult time for me. I know I should have appealed the decision, it was totally wrong to not give me the mobility award as well, but my health couldnt stand the thought of being put through anything more at the moment. I was relieved that I received the enhanced rate of care and that will go some way towards the costs I have for running my own car as well as paying the people who help me and extra things I have to buy for being so disabled and worsening. Continue to fight people and I will be re-applying for the mobility part next time as we all deserve to be treated better than this. thanks again B n W. You are wonderful people.
