PIP appeal was created by Jessa
Hi,

I was shuffled over from DLA to PIP and, in the process, I have been downgraded.

I have been claiming DLA for 7 years and my award was high rate care and low rate mobility. They sent me to Atos and, after my 35 minute assessment, they awarded me standard rate care and no mobility. I went through the mandatory reconsideration (they didn't wait for me to see my specialist before writing to me) and they didn't change the award so I am now appealing.

Can anyone advise me on what to write in the section 5 box? I have the mandatory reconsideration letter to the DWP. Would that be useful? I was thinking of sending that anyway, plus the specific letter I got from my specialist. I have never been through this so I am a bit lost.

Thanks,

Jessa

Hi
Presumably you have worked through the decision letter seeing where and why points were not awarded according to your assessment of what you should get and you have looked at the evidence you can supply to support your appeal.
If you used our guides to claim and request the MR you will know the more evidence you supply of how your condition(s) affect you the better. You should have supplied most of this already so you need to refer to this when putting your case.
The MR letter will be available to them anyway but if you are referring to it in the appeal then it won't hurt to put it in. The specialist letter should go in as well. Have you a carer or partner or family members helping you? They can all make statements. Any therapists you see.
You don't have to put everything in at this stage. You have up to the appeal to submit further evidence.
