Allowance enquiries was created by Alice
Hi I'm writing this on behalf of my friends who is on benefit.
She is receiving ESA and housing benefit , middle rate of care of DLA and low rate of mobility of DLA.
She just sent PIP2form with help from this websit (thank you) and citizen advice.

Now She's worrying about assessment and result. Anyway,
She thought about worst situation.
What happens if She can't get PIP.

I asked CAB if allowance of ESA ,HB would be affected if She's without PIP.
I was told its separate one, so no.
But I saw this, made her worried.

=====
How employment and support allowance has been worked out
Your living expenses £73.10
Extra money because you're severely disabled £61.85
Extra money because of the disability income guarantee £15.75

Limited capability for work addition
Extra money because you're in support group £36.20
Which gives a total income-related amount £186.90

Then does it mean She might lose £61.85+£15.75=£77.6 ????

======

If this isn't right question, pls delete. I'm sorry.

Hi Alice,

If your friend were to lose her DLA/PIP that would not have an immediate effect on her ESA claim and she should still get her Housing Benefit.

However, I am afraid that she is right in supposing that she would lose her ESA premiums if she no longer had a care component of DLA or PIP.

Hi Mrs hurtyback thank you so much for reply.

So are you saying, it won't effect on ESA straight after if she lost,
But she would lose eventually.
And for housing benefit, no effect on it?!

Is this what I can explain to my friend?
I'm sorry I have no idea about this. So confusing.

This must be so scary to her :(

If your friend is receiving any ESA Premiums solely due to her DLA award then she will lose these if she does not get a PIP award or one that does not enable the Premiums. The Premiums will continue in payment, as will her DLA for four weeks and will then be stopped.

Housing Benefit is calculated from scratch although the rules are similar to those for Income Related ESA, so the loss of her DLA/PIP may have an effect on her Housing Benefit depending on her personal circumstances and she would likely lose entitlement to any Council Tax reductions that are enabled by her current DLA award.

We can't give a definitive statement on how she will be effected as we don't know the details of her current payments, so if she is really concerned about the impact she needs to get face to face advice from a trained advisor who can go through her payments with and calculate how they would be effected, get her to do an internet search for "welfare advice" with her postcode, town or county.
