Help with PIP2 form please? Questions 3b and 3b.

I wonder if you can help me please. I was transferred from IB to ESA a few years ago and used your guides to complete my forms. I was put in the support group with no face to face assessment. Your guides were invaluable, thank you very much for all the information you make available.

I am currently in receipt of DLA (lifetime award) and received the letter telling me my benefit is ending and I need to claim PIP. I am now in the process of completing the PIP2 form. I hope my question is not a stupid one but can anyone tell me please what I should do if I cannot answer YES/NO/SOMETIMES to any questions? Questions 3a and 3b are the ones I need help with. I am unable to prepare food due to inflammatory arthritis. I can give extra information as to why I am unable to prepare and cook food but am concerned if I don’t tick any of the boxes for these questions my information will be disregarded. I had a home assessment with an occupational therapist many years ago and was supplied with some aids to assist in the kitchen and elsewhere but have never been able to use them as my hands are too painful and my grip is very poor. I currently receive lowest level care and highest level mobility of DLA. The care component was awarded after an appeal because I could not cook a meal from scratch. Whilst I should have asked for a reassessment years ago as my condition has become worse over the years, the whole experience was so awful (it dragged on for 15 months) I have never done so.

I apologise in advance for time wasting if I have missed anything relating to my question in either your guides or on the forum.

By answering "yes" you are saying that you always need assistance from an aid or someone else, you should explain what aids you use or what help you need from another person and why.

By answering "no" you are saying that you never use an aid or need someone to help you, if you are to score points, you need to explain why you cannot use an aid or why help from another person would allow you to prepare and cook a meal or, that you do not need to use an aid or receive assistance

By answering "sometimes" you are saying that you do use and aid or receive assistance but not all of the time. You need to explain when you do need to use an aid or receive assistance and when you do not and why

In all cases remember to make use of "reliably" and "the majority of days".

As a general comment, if you find that the tick boxes restrict your ability to answer then you can mark them "see below" and explain in the comment box or attached pages, but remember that you still need to answer the questions raised.

Thank you Gordon for replying to me so quickly. On re-reading 3b I can see that yes is the answer as someone cooks my food for me. I guess that person is effectively my "aid" for question 3a also. I should have paid more attention before contacting you, but as you can imagine my nerves are in shreds. I don't think I will be lucky enough not to get a face to face assessment this time round but I can live in hope. Don't know how I would manage without the B&W guides. Wishing you all the very best for 2016 and I hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

You say that someone cooks for you, please be aware that you still need to explain why you cannot do this for your self, you will only score points for things that you cannot do, not those that you do not do.

Willow! I can't tell you how stumped I too was about Q3a. It threw me for the same reasons as you & I got myself in such a twist that I couldn't figure it out.

Like you, I am so very grateful for Gordon's clear explanations, for this website and & share your very best wishes to all at B&W!
