Should I use DLA evidence in PIP claim? was created by NicW
I have just received my form for claiming PIP.When I had to make the phonecall I was asked if I wanted to use previous DLA award and evidence in my claim for PIP.I asked for the DLA evidence to review it before I decided, the truth was that I didnt know what to reply!
I was awarded both lower care and mobility.Has anyone else faced this decision?

This is a standard question that all DLA claimants invited to claim PIP are asked
Reviewing the information first is not supposed to be one of the options, it's either yes or no! Even if you say yes there is no guarantee that the information is still available or that the assessor will refer to it.
Our recommendation is to supply all evidence that you want to be considered with the PIP2 form that you will be sent next, this includes evidence from any DLA claim, although you need to ensure that it is still relevant.

We were also thinking long and hard about using Hubby's old DLA award, but considering so much has change over the last 20 years including the onset of Alzheimer's these last couple of years we shall now treat the next or any new application for PIP as a brand new claim now. We will however still refer back to the 90s evidence and send copies of how and when hubby's initial problems all started plus up to date documentation form hubbys GP,mental health and both his Spinal & Hip surgeons report so we can paint a full picture for anyone to both read and hopefully understand better.

Gordon,
When you get a paper PIP1 form, there is an option. It does ask 'do you want them to use previous medical evidence': Yes, No or do you want to see what evidence they have.
It is quite clear to me that by using a paper form, there are more questions on the form than are being asked when applying over the phone.
My daughter in law did a phone application for my grandson and when she saw my form, she was aghast at what had NOT been asked.
