Hi Guys

1st off would just like to thank you all for your help on this fantastic site..

I'm looking for a bit of advise .My Daughter (19 years old) who lives with me ( I am her carer) had been on DLA for about 3 years previous and since June 2015 PIP enhanced rate ( awarded until 2021) she has been in college since she was 16.

Anyway I have since found out during this time she was entitled to ESA (3 YEARS !) But we did not claim :( we didn't know we could !

So today I rand up ESA and started a claim for her all went ok and they agreed it could be backdated for 3 months.

What I don't understand is during the phone call the ESA adviser stated that my daughter needed a sick note from her doctor I don't understand why as they can already see she is on enhanced PIP

Could someone please advise as I'm quite confused.

My daughter is leaving college this week as we have been advised by the local authority that if she were to claim ESA she could get support to help with getting into work

I'm afraid, in this context, her PIP award is not relevant as PIP is not an out of work benefit and many do work and receive a PIP award.

She will need to speak to her GP and ask them to issue a Fit Note and to backdate it by three months, if the GP will not do this then the claim can only be paid from when the Fit Note is dated.

Thanks Gordon really helpful as usual..

Hopefully the GP will back date fit note as my daughters disability relates to long term cognitive problems, social anxiety and eating disorders. The GP has been aware of her problems for over 5 years now

Thanks again Paula
