Just had an interview at JC plus :( was created by Judy
Someone close to me received a letter informing them that they were to have a benefit review, they are on ESA. Get there and it unfolds that it is in fact a fraud interview
They said that they are sending out these letters because that is the only way to get people in without them suspecting what is happening. Anyway, they said that this person has been flagged up as having 10,000 in their account. Oddly enough we took the bank book as proof of address and it clearly shows that that is NOT the case and has never been the case. They want this person to go back to 2013 with proof that they have never had this amount ever in that account. So we went to bank and requested this information and it has cost them fifteen pounds. Plus now they are worried sick. A statement was made and they signed it to the effect that they had never had this amount in there lives. What rights do they have now? It is going to take 4 weeks the bank said, with the Christmas backlog, for the information to be sent to them
They are now out of pocket and worried sick, even though they have done absolutely nothing wrong and can prove it eventually

In all honesty there is little that they can do about this but wait for the Bank Statements to be produced. The DWP are required to follow up all reports of fraud, many are malicious reports by people that the claimant knows and are dismissed after a basic investigation without the claimant ever knowing it happened. Some reports are produced electronically via HMRC when the banks submit tax information for each account, it sounds like this may be where this report has come from.
If they have not had this much money in their account then there should be no issue and the investigation should be closed. They should ask for compensation for any costs they have incurred in providing the statement.

Yes it was flagged up by the tax people we were told. It was all linked to their NI number. What flagged it up was the interest payment on that account, the amount of interest suggested they had 10,000 in the account which they have never had. Anyway it's the stress it has caused plus the surreptitious way they get you in to their office. We will just have to wait for the back statements to come through I guess. Thank you for your prompt reply Gordon.

The same happened to me. HMRC flagged up interest and calculated I had over £10000 savings. Totally wrong. They ought to be more careful as this causes a lot of worry.

No refund of the bank charges are coming. They flatly refuse and basically say it's tough cheese. But this person wouldn't be out of pocket if it wasn't for this? How can that be? That is a weeks worth of food they are losing

I would wait for the matter to be resolved and then make a formal complaint to the DWP.
Complaining to the DWP
