So I've heard..

This is awful because at the start of December we sent off a claim for attendance allowance for my dad, we've only had one letter back since saying they've accepted our claim and are going to work on processing it.. but we've not heard anything for a few weeks now. My dad has dementia and requires care, he can't get DLA or PIP, due to his age he can only get attendance allowance. If he was to be awarded attendance allowance I could get carer's allowance as already been a unpaid carer for him for a few years now. So if the one thing he could claim for his illness is now going to be scrapped, that seems very unfair. I'm looking for some advice from the team here. I realise this isn't a ESA, PIP or DLA query, but AA needs some support and help too..

Hi J,
If you are referring to : This News Article , the scrapping of AA is not a definite, and is only up for Consultation at this time.
Even if it is scrapped eventually, it seems that claimants already in receipt of AA will be protected.
So, if your Dad has an AA award at the time, if/when AA is scrapped, he should continue to receive it !
I am surmising that you used our : AA Claims Guide when making Dad's claim.
