Atos re Pip Home Visit was created by Samantha
I got the dreaded brown envelope in October sent all the forms back by end of November (over 50 pages of letters copied from my medical notes etc.). along with the fantastic support from this website) I had not heard anything so I checked Today with DWP they said it was with Atos so called Atos they said I was Pending a home visit. I was amazed to hear from that as I was expecting to have to go for a face to face medical at an Atos centre. I checked with GP they have not even contacted my GP as I requested.
So was not expecting some 2hrs later to get a call from Atos saying that they will be coming tomorrow afternoon for a home visit. I felt that I could not refuse as I don’t know when they may offer another one. It just feels like they are rushing it through. She said that they are visiting someone else in the area and can visit me as well so I don’t know if it will be an advantage or disadvantage or not?. I have spina Bifida, Syringomyelia, Amputation of toes, asthma & use a calliper to name but a few. I have great pain upon standing up & when I walk around the Bungalow I use a stick. Outside I use a scooter as I can’t go very far. My OT referred me to the wheelchair people at the hospital & I’m waiting for a wheelchair assessment I have already had my local housing people out & they are going to put a ramp in at home & widen the doors. I have a wet room.
Has anyone else had a home visit & if so what can I expect? Anything sneaky that I should be aware of etc. At present I have dla higher rate Mobility so I have a Mobility car (my lifeline) I’m so worried that I will no longer qualify for it.
Let’s hope that it goes ok tomorrow.I was hoping for a bit more notice

Welcome to the forum.
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
For anybody else reading this, you are entitled to seven days written notice of an appointment although you can accept one at shorter notice if it suits you to do so.
Whilst it is rare for ATOS to do a home assessment, lots the B&W members have had one, they are not significantly different from one at the Assessment Providers offices. You can choose the room for it to be held in and you should not do anything special, so if you have issues with washing and dressing don't feel that you have to do either just for the interview.
You can and we would recommend that you do, have someone with you.
Have a look at the back of the PIP Claim guide there is a section that deals with the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.
Good luck for the day.

My husband had a home assess. by Atos recently. It was easier for him, we know the size of the living room & how far to the car etc. We were pleasantly surprised by the assessor, whilst not overly friendly she was thorough & he rece'd enhanced mobility & enhanced care indefinitely. He has a mobility car also & she did pass comments on the report that it was essential. Remember, you are in your own home, so no nasty unexpected happenings, I have read so much about having to attend their offices. Just remember that everything you say is written down, however flippant! I was with my husband & I'm afraid that I made sure I joined in when he forgot something. I was not corrected, she allowed me my say as well.
As Gordon says have someone with you.
Good Luck x
